The area of this sanctuary is 672.00 Sq. Km. and it was set up vide Notification No. 6958 dated 22.4.1975. It is located in the undivided District of Cuttack (now Kendrapara) between longitudes 86degree 30' to 87 degree 6' (east) and latitude 20 degree 30' to 20 degree 50' (north). The sanctuary is under the administrative control of Divisional Forest Officer(Wildlife), Rajnagar, Kendrapara. The Divisional Headquarters located at Rajnagar is approximately 130 Km. from the State Capital, Bhubaneswar. The sanctuary is also approachable via Chandbali which is 174 Km. from Bhubaneswar and 55 km. from Bhadrak Railway Station along South Eastern Railways. Species to be seen :

New area/habitat with potentiality for tiger conservation in the state such as Satkoshia Gorge Wildlife Sanctuary has been notified as second Tiger Reserve. The area of this sanctuary is of 745.52 sq.km. and it was set up vide Notification No. 22727 dated 19.5.1976. It is located in the Districts of Angul, Nayagarh, Phulbani between longitude 85 degree 35' to 86 degree 5' (East) and latitude 20 degree 25' to 20 degree 45' (North). The sanctuary is approachable from Angul, Nayagarh or Boudh. From Angul - (on NH 42) 30 Km., From Daspala-30 km., From Charichhak- 40 km. The Headquarters located at Angul, and Range Headquarters is Tikarpara. The entry points are at Pampasar, Kumuri, Chhamundia. Species to be seen :

The area of this sanctuary is 191.06 sq. km. and it was set up vide Notification No. is 34113 dated 6.12.78. It is located in the district of Keonjhar between longitudes 86 degree 20' and latitude 21 degree 16'. The sanctuary can be approached by road. It is only at a distance of 20 km. from Bhadrak on N.H.5. Bhadrak is well communicated through Railway with Calcutta and the State Capital Bhubaneswar. Species to be seen

The area of this sanctuary is 14.16 sq. km. and set up vide Notification No. 20672 dated 3.8.1979. It is located in the Khurda district between longitudes 85 degree 49'3" to 85 degree 59'5" (East) and latitudes 20 degree 17' to 20 degree 23'. It is by road 15 km. from the State Capital, Bhubaneswar Railway Station (Barannga), 1 km. & Airport is 18 km. Varieties of captive animals in Zoo. A number of plant species (common, rare and endangered) in the Botanical Garden.
Nandankanan is one of the premier 'large' Zoos of the country, the Nandankanan Zoological Park, was established in 1960 over an area of 3.62sq.kms, in a natural setting. The zoo has 1291 animals of 130 species (508 mammals of 48 species, 688 birds of 58 species and 95 reptiles of 24 species); housed in 98 enclosures (Cages-60, Moated-38). The White Tiger Safari, Lion Safari, Aquarium, Aviary, Orangutan, Chimpanzee, Gharial breeding facility, Toy Train, Boating and Aerial Ropeway are some of the prime attractions of this Zoo.
White Tigers - Nandankanan Zoological Park holds the largest collection of white tigers (now, 10) in any zoo in the country. These white tigers have been used to procure rare animals from other zoos in the country and abroad in exchange.
The area of this sanctuary is 2200.00 sq.km. and its Notification No. 30467 dated 3.12.1979. It is located in the Mayurbhanj District between longitudes 86 degree 4' to 86 degree 37' (east) and Latitudes 21 degree 28' to 22 degree 8' (north). The Similipal Sanctuary is approachable by road from both Joshipur & Baripada. The nearest Railway Stations are Baripada, Balasore (55 Kms from Baripada), Badampahar (20 km. from Joshipur) & Tatanagar (120 km. from Joshipur) all in South Eastern Railways, Calcutta & Bhubaneswar are the nearest Airports (about 250 km. from Baripada and 280 km. from Joshipur). 'Similipal' was chosen as one of the nine prime locations for tiger conservation under the 'Project Tiger' launched in the year 1973 in the country. Government of India declared Simlipal as a biosphere reserve in 1994. UNESCO added this national park to its list of Biosphere Reserves in May 2009.

The area of the sanctuary is 147.66 sq. km. and the Notification No. 24498, dated 15.10.92. It is located by Kalahandi district, between longitude, 82 degree 45' to 83 degree 15' (East) and latitudes 19 degree 30' to 19 degree 50' )North). Species to be seen, Important species include tiger, leopard, wildpig, bison, sambar, nilgai, barking deer, mouse deer, varieties of colourful birds, and reptiles (snakes and lizards).
Gahirmatha is the only marine wildlife sanctuary of Odisha. This was notified as such in Government of Odisha, Forest & Environment Department Notification No. 18805/ F&E dated 27 September 1997 and published in the Odisha Gazette, extraordinary No. 1268 dated 17 October 1997. The total area of the sanctuary is 1435.0 km² which includes 1408.0 km² of water body and 27.0 km² of land mass including reserve forests, mud flats and accreted sand bars. Core area of the sanctuary consists of 725.50 km² and the buffer zone accounts for 709.50 km². The entire sanctuary area comes within the revenue district of Kendrapara.
Olive Ridley sea turtles migrate in huge numbers from the beginning of November, every year, for mating and nesting along the coast of Odisha. Gahirmatha coast has the annual nesting figure between one hundred to five hundred thousand, each year.
